Battery storage for architects

For architects

Plant, as a design decision.

A megawatt-hour of BYD storage, a Pratic pergola, one footprint on the lawn. Scroll to walk around it.

Mirror-clad plant bay

A plant room you would put on the lawn on purpose.

Two BYD cabinets and a PCS behind sliding mirror glass. 1 MWh in the footprint of two parking bays; the louvred roof breathes for the batteries.

How it is built

The frame.

A Pratic Connect bioclimatic pergola — dark bronze aluminium, 3 m clear height, on a 400 mm recessed slab.

The plant rises.

BYD MC Cube cabinets: 2,775 mm tall, 1,130 mm wide, 4,000 kg each. Set into the slab so the plinth sits below deck level.

The roof and glass.

Louvres for ventilation on demand; sliding glass for the terrace, sliding mirror for the plant. Both bays read as one object.

1 MWh, furnished.

Two cabinets carry a country-house hotel's evening peak. Add a cabinet per half-megawatt-hour; the footprint grows 1,130 mm at a time.

How we value your work

The design integration fee

Integrating an energy centre into a scheme is real work — coordination, planning consents, client counsel. Our partner programme recognises it with a design integration fee: declared to your client, documented in a simple agreement, with a published schedule by project type. Ask for the one-page summary.

Bring us a live scheme — free power feasibility, in writing, within days.

Questions we get asked

FAQ
What do you provide at RIBA Stage 2?

Drawings of the plant footprint, cable routes, separation distances and the pergola energy centre concept, so the battery is designed into the scheme rather than squeezed in later.

How much space does a battery system need?

Each Always node is 650 mm wide and about 2.5 m tall, and gives 20 kW with 30.8 kWh of storage. Nodes sit side by side, so fifteen of them — 300 kW and 462 kWh — make a row under 10 m long.

Can the plant be hidden?

Yes. We house it in a Pratic Connect pergola with mirrored panels, and fit whatever the system needs inside it, so from the garden it reads as architecture, not plant.

Can you meet us to go through a project?

Yes. We can visit your practice or meet on site to go through a scheme with you. Book a call back or a visit from this page.

How do we send you a scheme?

Email the drawings to hello@alwaysenergy.co.uk or use the form on this page. We come back with the footprint, routes and separation for your site.
