FAQWhat is an ICP?
An Independent Connection Provider designs and builds the contestable parts of a new connection, which the DNO or an IDNO then adopts. Our connection works are designed and delivered by our partner UK Power Connections Ltd, a NERS-accredited ICP.
Why use an ICP instead of the network operator?
Programme and price. Contestable works run to your timetable at a competitive price, and we manage the whole package — civils, cabling, jointing and the substation — with the connection works delivered by UK Power Connections Ltd, a NERS-accredited ICP.
What is the difference between contestable and non-contestable work?
Contestable work can be built by an accredited ICP: trenching, ducting, cable laying, jointing and substations. Non-contestable work stays with the network operator — mainly the final connection to the live network and its approvals.
How long does a new connection take?
It depends on where the capacity is. Our free appraisal gives you the likely point of connection, cost and programme in writing before you spend anything.
Can battery storage avoid a capacity upgrade?
Often. A battery covers short peaks so the site stays inside its existing supply. We price it side by side with the upgrade so you can compare.
